Skills Groups

We plan to or currently offer the following groups (click each for more information):
Some individuals pursue group therapy or skills groups in addition to or instead of individual therapy. We offer groups for adolescents and young adults with varying durations, modalities, and goals. As groups are forming, they will be described on this page and initial application forms will be available.

Social and Emotional Skills Groups for Teens (6 weeks)
Groups that focus on helping teens to:

Better understand emotions, and how to manage them

Develop skills to manage stress and anxiety

improve relationships with friends and families
This skills group meets in-person in Olney, MD
Group to be held over 6-weeks on Saturdays.
Groups are led by two doctoral level psychologists.

Adult Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group (24 week)
The DBT group is designed to build skills in 4 critical areas:
• Core Mindfulness. • Interpersonal Effectiveness
• Emotion Regulation. • Distress Tolerance
This skills group will meet in-person in Friendship Village/Chevy Chase, MD
(Friendship Heights metro).
• Group to be held Friday mornings from 10:30-12:00 EST.
• The group will be led by two doctoral level clinical psychologists who
are intensively trained in DBT.

Parent Management Skills Groups
Parent management training provides parents and other caregivers with knowledge about evidence-based tools for effective parenting and managing child behavior. This group focuses on building parent knowledge and providing opportunities to practice skills to support positive child development, including validation, positive reinforcement and problem solving.
While focused on parenting, this group is for adults only to build thier skills to be effective.
When formed this skills group will meet in-person in Olney, MD.
The group will be led a doctoral level clinical psychologist who intensively trained in DBT and DBT-C.
